RRC is proud to announce that our Braced Tube Foundation has been reviewed by DNV, a globally respected independent organization specializing in assurance, engineering review, and certification. This technology review is part of RRCs strategy to confirm that the design meets the demanding standards required for utility-scale wind turbine foundations, including performance under rotational and lateral loading.
The foundation is now moving from design to deployment. In partnership with a local EPC and developer in China, the first full-scale prototype is scheduled to begin construction in August 2025. This pilot marks a significant step in demonstrating the Braced Tube Foundation’s real-world viability and global potential.
A Smarter Foundation for a Changing Industry
The Braced Tube Foundation is a patented, proprietary solution developed by RRC in response to direct client feedback: the need for foundation systems that are more efficient, constructible, and cost-effective without sacrificing performance.
Unlike traditional gravity or monopile foundations, this design uses radial bracing beams to better engage surrounding soil, improving stiffness and resistance to deformation while streamlining construction.
The foundation has been tested through:
- Scaled physical model tests in both sandy and clayey soils
- Full 3D finite element analysis under realistic project conditions
In both cases, the Braced Tube Foundation outperformed conventional alternatives under static and cyclic loads. Compared to typical gravity or monopile designs, the Braced Tube Foundation may offer significant benefits such as:
- Greater capacity – up to 50% more in clay and 40% more in sand
- Material savings – up to 40% less concrete and 50% less steel
- Lower environmental impact – thanks to a smaller foundation diameter
- Faster buildability – including shorter construction timelines and simplified excavation
Built on a Proven Track Record
Over the past 17 years, RRC has designed more than 22,000 wind turbine foundations across North America, supporting over 63 GW of installed capacity. With zero performance-related retrofits, we bring proven expertise and deep industry trust to every new advancement.
The Braced Tube Foundation reflects that legacy and pushes it forward.
