Tualatin, OR: Lead Substation Engineer, PE

RRC is seeking a talented Lead Substation Engineer, PE to help us build the future of U.S. energy production from our Tualatin, OR office. This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of the evolving energy production landscape.

Essential Responsibilities
• Work with team to design substation protection schemes and develop layout of high voltage substation equipment
• Manage engineering design for substation projects including quality, schedule, and budget
• Act as the engineer of record for responsible projects
• Interface with internal and external team members such as substation engineers, solar engineers, study engineers, project coordinators, electrical designers, drafters, and project managers
• Take ownership of projects to meet and exceed client expectations
• Perform and review AC & DC, voltage drop, conduit fill, illumination, lightning, insulation coordination, and other studies
• Prepare and review equipment specifications and procurement documents
• Review manufacturer equipment drawings
• Perform QA/QC of substation design packages
• Develop recommendations for equipment and material per requirements and safety guidelines
• Assist with the preparation of project proposals

Job Requirements
• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• 8+ years’ experience in HV substation design (outdoor and indoor)
• Experience as a project engineer or lead engineer
• Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Switchgear and open-air substation experience required
• Strong understanding of applicable industry codes and standards including the IEEE, NESC, and NEC
• Ability to organize, schedule, prioritize, and multi-task in a dynamic environment
• Power transformer specification design
• Substation equipment specification experience
• Support/Lead development of standards, optimizations, and processes
• Must be client centered with focus on high quality and innovation to make a difference
• Work, collaborate, and build a team centered culture supporting the training for the team at all levels
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and make recommendations
• Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Additional Experience
• Experience in renewable energy, distribution, or MV power systems
• Power Transformer experience
• Insulation coordination and TrOV experience
• GIS switchgear experience
• Understanding of distribution and transmission connected renewable projects
• IEC 61850 experience and aspirations

Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or other related engineering discipline
• CCNA & CCNP certifications
• 4+ year experience in network design and security, preferable in power and renewable energy industry
• 2+ years’ experience with MS Server and VM Sphere
• 2+ years’ experience with AWS or equivalent
• Experience with CISCO, MOXA equipment
• Proven ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Efficiently communicate and report at all levels
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook
• Candidates with previous SCADA related experience preferred
• Ability to travel up to 15%, including potential international travel to job sites
